Pula is the largest city of the Istrian county, located on the very south of the Istrian peninsula, 100km away from Trieste and Rije-ka. With its 2000 year long history, numerous antique monuments, beaches and festivals, Pula is one of the main centers of tourism in Croatia.
The most famous monument in Pula and the biggest tourist attraction is certainly the Arena Amphitheater where gladiators fought at the time of the Roman Empire. It was built in the 1st century at the time of Emperor Vespasian at the same time as the Colosseum in Rome. Today, the Arena is used for various summer events such as a film festival and numerous concerts including world renowned musicians such as Luciano Pavarotti, Jose Careras, Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Joe Cocker, Tom Jones, Elton John, 2Cellos, Sting, Simply Red, Manu Chao and many others.
By walking around the center of Pula, you will see other interesting ancient monuments such as the Temple of Augustus, the Sergio Arch - The Golden Door, the Little Roman Theater, the Forum, Hercules and the Twin Door.
One of the main tourist attractions of the town of Pula is certainly the long indented coastline with numerous beaches and crystal clear waters, as well as the proximity of the Brijuni National Park and the protected nature park Kamenjak rich with untouched natural beauty.
